This is the sixth post in my “Greenwashing Series” where I talk about the good and the bad in the beauty industry. Stay tuned for product reviews based on product trial periods of 30+ days—my skin type is acne-prone, sensitive, and dry.
I’m lucky that one of my best friends Carissa (who is an amazing hairstylist at Code Style Club), gifted me this Pure Charcoal Clay Cleanser to try out and review for the blog! I was so excited because I have been wanting to try 100% PURE™ for the longest time. I believe that 100% PURE™ aligns with the mission of Truly Blazey because they value health and efficacy as much as I do. They offer 100% pure, all-natural, no bullshit products, and that is what I love!
I started trying this product back in October when I was having a little bit of an acne flair-up. This Charcoal Clay Cleanser claims to minimize pores, detoxify, and wash away makeup while refreshing the skin without stripping or dehydrating it. I use this product in the shower after I remove all of my makeup. It essentially serves as a double-cleanse the way that I use it.
This product has a texture that is the very definition of slip-ability. It glides onto the skin and has a very gel-like texture. It smells kind of like lemony plastic. I used to use a cleanser from Alba Botanica (which is full of toxic crap) that had almost the exact same smell. This made me curious about what ingredient they both use that has that unappealing smell.
I usually rub the product in with my fingers using circular motions for about 1 minute. I’ll then let it sit on my face for about a minute more as the stream from the shower further opens up my pores. I then wash it off and my skin usually feels baby smooth. It feels very hydrated, looks healthy, and plump after the shower. I feel like doesn’t work as well as the Activated Charcoal Scrub from Lunaroma (read my full review of that product). It does help a little bit with keeping the acne from getting worse, but it didn’t clear my skin up either. I find that when I was using the Activated Charcoal Scrub from Lunaroma (and this may be TMI, but I’m not here to be untruthful) it helped the acne crust over and dry up. This is what I personally look for when using a product marketed towards treating acne concerns. This product is $32.00 for 2.7oz. which is more expensive than Lunaroma’s product which I found surprising.
I do want to say that I admire what 100% PURE™ is doing as a brand. They use high-quality and non-toxic ingredients in all of their products. They are also cruelty-free and give 1 bowl of specially crafted vegan dog food per every order. The food you’ve donated is delivered and fed to dogs at shelters in China where they often face abandonment, cruelty, and even death in the dog meat trade.
I would be happy to make future purchases from 100% PURE™. I will likely be trying out one of their makeup products next. I’ve got my eye on their Fruit Pigmented® 2nd Skin Foundation as I’m looking to start trying all-natural makeup!
