This is the second post in my “Greenwashing Series” where I talk about the good and the bad in the beauty industry. Stay tuned for product reviews based on product trial periods of 30+ days—my skin type is acne-prone, sensitive, and dry.

About 1 year ago while at Champlain College, I and my team had the opportunity to work on a semester-long marketing project with Lunaroma, an “aromatic apothecary” and skincare brand based in Burlington, Vermont. This is when I really started to learn about the company. All of their products are made with the highest quality, non-toxic, 100% natural, pure aromatherapeutic grade, and eco-friendly ingredients.
The owner, Leyla Bringas, is an admirable small business owner who opened her business in 2000 out of a spare bedroom in her home with the $2,000 she received from her tax return. After 19 years of being open for business, Lunaroma has 300+ handcrafted product offerings and a team of talented professionals helping the brand grow. Today, they have landed accounts with some of the most loved and well-respected businesses in Vermont including Hotel Vermont, The Inn at Shelburne Farms, and Hen of the Wood.
Activated charcoal is used to free your pores of bacteria, dirt, and any other environmental toxins that can contribute to acne. This strong bacteria-fighting ingredient is excellent for treating and even healing acne. It’s also known to help provide a glowing complexion.
I’ve been using the Activated Charcoal Facial Wash from Lunaroma for about 2 months. I was surprised when I went to use the product for the first time and it came out JET black. It’s much darker in color than the Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser that I had been using from Biore, which is loaded with toxic ingredients like methylisothiazolinone and methylparaben. Whereas, the Activated Charcoal Facial Wash from Lunaroma contains all-natural ingredients including organic white willow bark extract, organic milk thistle seed oil, and organic neem oil all of which help to fight acne while also nourishing the skin.
I LOVE the smell of this face wash. It seriously smells like the most scrumptious lemon meringue pie ever! The product texture is thin and runny so be careful if you plan on applying it in the shower like I normally do. I barely use a dime-sized amount, but it really goes a long way. I also noticed that this wash does have a bit of a grainy texture. It’s hardly detectable but it’s there. I suspect that this helps to remove the dead skin without irritation or stripping.
After you rinse the product off, your skin instantly feels refreshed. I mean REFRESHED from the inside to the outside. Your soul has been cleansed—you’re glowing, your skin is plump, and you smell divine. I use this product about 3 or 4 times per week and I honestly really love it. It makes my skin feel very soft and hydrated as well as clearing up any breakouts. It’s been a real game-changer for me since it treats both of my skin concerns (dry + acne) at once!
It’s priced at $28 for 4 ounces of product or $16 for 2 ounces which I understand can be expensive. If you can afford it, it’s definitely worth spending your hard-earned cash on! You only have to use a little bit of it to get results. It’s also non-toxic and natural, so that’s a big plus in my book too. It’s an excellent product and an even better company—100% would recommend this face wash. 🌙💙
