Vermont Lavender was founded in January 2018 by Barre, Vermont resident Diane Maurice-Brault out of a desire to create a natural skincare line to treat skin conditions including Eczema and Psoriasis. After years of personally struggling with her painful Psoriasis and trying countless Big Pharma “fixes,” she turned to more natural solutions. As a Master Gardener, Diane researched and crafted her own line with a focus on lavender which is known for its calming and soothing effects on the skin. She taught herself to handcraft sustainable and natural skincare products including soaps, lotions, balms, etc…to help Vermonters struggling with dry skin.
Lavender is well-known for its aromatherapeutic properties. There is evidence to suggest its effectiveness in relieving nervous tension, headaches, anxiety, depression, insomnia, allergies, and more. Lavender can be used in skincare products to help effectively treat Eczema and Psoriasis due to its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. I have had Eczema since I was a baby and it has gotten much worse into my adult years from stress and other factors. I discussed this with Diane and she was kind enough to send me products to try out based on my skin type. These products including Calendula Lotion (unscented), Calendula Body Butter (unscented), Maple Lip Balm, and Lavender Linen Soap.
My Vermont Lavender Skincare Routine
I have been trying out these products for a bit more than 1 month. I detailed below how I’ve liked to use them in my skincare routine. I’ve also included just a bit more information about each of these products as well in case you would like to make a purchase to support this small business!
1. Lavender Linen Soap.
While it may seem a bit odd, but I wash my hands when I first get in the shower. I do this because the shower is where I do all of my skincare and want to make sure my hands are completely cleaned before applying any products. I’ve lately been using this bar soap in the shower to wash up. I like the fruity and florally fragrance that it has but generally prefer unscented products. I also like to steer clear of products with Mica. I do, however, like that this bar soap foams into a rich and luxurious lather.
2. Calendula Body Butter (Unscented).
I use this 100% all-natural body butter made with 95% pure Ceramide powder after showering. Ceramides are naturally occurring within our bodies in order to make new skin cells. I like that the product is unscented because when you have sensitive skin, fragranced products can often cause redness and irritation. The texture is very rich making this butter the perfect product for winter when dry skin often needs a bit of extra hydration! This body butter is not at all agitating to my sensitive skin and did the trick for reducing the redness of the Eczema on my hands. I have bad rough patches of eczema on my hands which this product treated effectively by hydrating and smoothing them out quite a bit!
3. Maple Lip Balm.
This lip balm is 100% all-natural and made with nourishing ingredients including cocoa butter, coconut oil, sweet almond oil, castor oil, and Vermont maple syrup. Maple syrup is packed with nutrients, antioxidants, and anti-aging properties. It’s also anti-bacterial which is great for serious cases of eczema (open-wounds) that need to be treated with an anti-septic as well. This lip balm is very gritty which I found to be a bit odd. It’s an extremely unique product as it exfoliates like a lip scrub but as you keep rubbing your lips together the grittiness dissolves into a creamy balm. I found that this product will keep your lips hydrated for hours before having to reapply and it takes away all of the dead skin which is amazing too! I would say for $6.99 this product is absolutely worth giving a shot. I’m hooked on it because I LOVE all-natural 2-in-1 skincare products as they are very elusive. A word of warning: this product tastes so incredibly good that you may want to eat it of which I do not recommend.
4. Calendula Lotion (Unscented).
This 90% natural product reminds me of an unscented and way more gentle version of POND’S® Dry Skin Cream which I used to use in high school. It’s cooling and soothing to the skin when you apply it. I took this cream with me on a snowmobiling trip because I knew my skin would get extra dry and inflamed. I used this product as a facial moisturizer after showering. I found that it kept my skin soft and hydrated without clogging my pores. It feels cooling when first applied which I really enjoyed as well!
I tried a few products from Vermont Lavender, but my favorite of the bunch is definitely the Maple Lip Balm! It’s unique and for that price, you should absolutely give it a try!
